The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled the successful candidates that emerged from its House of Representatives primary elections held across the state over the weekend as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
The announcement was made at the APC state secretariat in Abeokuta by Philip Shaibu, former Deputy Governor of Edo State and chairman of the committee overseeing the National Assembly primaries in Ogun State. According to the committee, the primary elections were concluded successfully in all affected federal constituencies after the submission and collation of results from electoral officers.
The candidates who secured the party’s tickets include Funmi Efuwape for Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, Olumide Osoba for Abeokuta North/Obafemi Owode/Odeda Federal Constituency, and Moruf Afuape for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency.
Others are Toyin Taiwo for Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency, Olanrewaju Bashorun for Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency, Adijat Adeleye for Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency, Joseph Adegbesan for Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency, Razaq Dadah for Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu/Ijebu North East Federal Constituency, and Gboyega Isiaka for Imeko-Afon/Yewa North Federal Constituency.
The outcome of the primaries has already generated considerable political discussion within the state, particularly following the defeat of a number of serving lawmakers who had sought to return to the House of Representatives under the APC platform. Political analysts believe the results indicate changing power dynamics and renewed internal competition within the ruling party in Ogun State.
Several of the successful candidates are also regarded as close allies of Governor Dapo Abiodun, reinforcing the perception that the governor continues to wield substantial influence within the party structure in the state. Some of the winners previously served in key positions within the state government before contesting the primaries.
One of the most closely watched contests was that involving Olumide Osoba, son of former Ogun State governor Olusegun Osoba, who retained the APC ticket for Abeokuta North/Obafemi Owode/Odeda Federal Constituency. Observers say his emergence further strengthens the political relevance of the Osoba family within Ogun politics.
Toyin Taiwo, who formerly served as Chief of Staff to Governor Abiodun, also secured victory in the Yewa South/Ipokia contest, while former commissioner Adijat Adeleye emerged as the APC candidate for Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency.
Party officials described the exercise as orderly and peaceful, maintaining that the primaries were conducted in line with party regulations and democratic procedures. Leaders of the party also appealed to aspirants and their supporters to remain united and work collectively towards the success of the APC in the forthcoming elections.
The Ogun APC primaries form part of wider consultations and internal elections currently taking place across the country as political parties prepare for the 2027 electoral cycle.
